Music
Aims
Town Close School has a vibrant and exciting Music Department which aims to:
- Instil a lifelong love of music in all its diversity in every child
- Provide every child in the School with specialist music teaching
- Give every child the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and sing in a choir
Organisation
Head of Department – Mrs S Koczur
Music plays an important and significant part in the life of the School. All year groups, from the Nursery through to Year 8, are taught by specialist staff, with singing fundamental to every pupil’s experience of music at Town Close School.
There are ten visiting peripatetic staff who teach a wide range of orchestral instruments, keyboard and voice to well over 200 children of all ages throughout the School. We encourage all children to participate in the many musical activities on offer.
Content
The School has a variety of choirs, an orchestra, several string ensembles, a wind band, flute choir, single reed band, brass group, percussion and guitar group.
Many of our pupils are prepared for Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall Practical and Theory Examinations, and some go on to take Music Scholarships and exhibitions to senior schools.
Trips and Events
Informal and formal concerts are given throughout the year, with a major musical production every other year. Some of our recent performances can be seen above and many others can be found in the news pages, click here for performance related news.
Every child in the Prep Department is involved in our annual House Singing Festival, and the choirs and ensembles take part in the Carol and End of Year services.
