Future Developments
The next development planned is an exciting and ambitious project entailing the rebuilding of the dining room and surrounding area. This will provide a new, purpose-built kitchen and dining room for the whole school, a spacious and well equipped art room, state-of-the-art science facilities, and a high-tech music room with a link to the existing music rooms in the main house. These plans aim to provide the School with fantastic, modern facilities in art, music and science to complement our other excellent facilities, in a new building that celebrates the beauty of the original main house. This new facility will enable us to offer even more outstanding opportunities to our pupils. In order to see these exciting developments come to life please see below.
Town Close School has recently undertaken the first steps in a series of exciting proposed enhancements to the School site and provision for our pupils. In April 2017, work began on the redevelopment and modernisation of the Pre Prep Department. The Nursery was extended to provide a peaceful quiet room and two large, colourful classrooms. New entrances were created on either side of the building into a spacious welcome area housing the Pre Prep secretary’s desk, administrative offices, a children’s area and comfortable visitors’ seating. These changes enabled enhanced access to the Pre Prep hall, the refurbishment of the main corridor, the addition of new cloakrooms for the storage of coats and bags and a new Year 1 classroom as well as a cosy Pre Prep Library on the first floor.
In August 2017, work began on Year 2 classrooms, housed in a new building affectionately named ‘The Nest,’ constructed alongside the extended Nursery and new entrance area. Covered in beautiful wooden cladding to fit with the School’s historic surroundings, this building provides four state-of-the-art classrooms, pupil toilets, and a small teaching room, giving Year 2 their own space at the heart of the Pre Prep site. As a result of this development, the classrooms formerly used by Year 2 in the Dearnaley building have been re-deployed for use by the Prep Department, paving the way for the re-development of the part of the site occupied by their former classrooms and the dining room.
