Our provision for children in Years 1 and 2 (for children aged 5-7 years) builds on the Foundation Stage Curriculum and follows key elements of the National Curriculum. It is an enhanced programme and includes additional specialist activities and lessons.
Our emphasis is on developing independent learners who are both literate and numerate and are also well motivated to maximise every learning opportunity. We respond to each child’s unique needs and abilities by tracking their individual progress and identifying those who need additional support as well as those who need extension activities and further challenges. Individual learning support and small group teaching is provided as appropriate.
We hold sports afternoon for each year group so that every child can fully participate, whatever their ability. Parents are invited to watch these events, and to join in with some of the races on sports afternoon. Parents are also invited, over the course of the year, to attend two assemblies led by their child’s class and to the Christmas play performed by children in Year 1 (age 5-6) and Year 2 (age 6-7).
There are also a number of educational day trips such as visits to Cromer pier and museums, Gressenhall Rural Life Museum, Norwich Cathedral, Howe Hill and West Runton beach.
Our weekly curriculum provision includes Swimming, Dance, PE and Games, as well as Music, Drama and ICT. Lessons are planned collaboratively so that all children in each year group have similar learning experiences. There are plenty of opportunities provided for our parents to work in partnership with class teachers and to hear about their child’s progress.
Our Key Stage 1 provision comprises three Year 1 classes (for children aged 5-6 years) and three Year 2 classes (for children aged 6-7 years). Our class teachers are supported by highly qualified Teaching Assistants.
