Town Close School is situated in a beautiful 15 acre site, and has wonderful natural woodland surrounding the school lawns, gardens, ponds and outdoor classrooms. These are used extensively for various activities and lessons throughout the year.
Our children benefit enormously from spending time outside, exploring the natural world, and applying some of their numeracy and literacy skills as well as developing their independent learning styles. Being outside gives them opportunities to do things in different ways and on different scales, to learn about the various natural habitats and to experience the changing weather and seasons.
By participating in an enormous range of practical activities, our youngsters learn how to keep themselves and each other safe and how to work together on various projects. For example, older pupils cook outdoors using trangias and a clay oven, which they built themselves.
All this has a positive impact on our children’s sense of well-being and helps all aspects of their development.
