Year 7 visit to the Château de la Baudonnière
Our Year 7 children began the academic year with an exhilarating residential trip to the Château de la Baudonnière, a beautiful estate of 100 acres, situated in the rolling countryside of southern Normandy, between the towns of La-Haye-Pesnel and Avranches.
Each day was structured around a timetable that introduced the children to a vast range of activities, challenges, and experiences that immersed them in the French culture and language, and included archery, aéroballe, orienteering, bread making, raft building, and a particularly muddy assault course! An excursion to Brittany gave the children an engrossing and interactive visit to a market in Dinan, and in the afternoon, a fascinating tour of Mont Saint Michel, a beautiful town and abbey built on a rocky island. Exclusive use of the French language to communicate and instruct, as well as a French quiz, and French lessons honed their language skills and confidence as the week progressed, whilst the evening camp fire and talent show allowed ample opportunity to showcase their vocal abilities! The children were also treated to a wide variety of French cuisine at each mealtime, with anything ‘au chocolat’ proving, predictably, the favourite!
The week proved to be a challenging and stimulating all-round learning experience, as well as, and most importantly, enormous fun!
