Year 5 visit the Ancient House Museum in Thetford, ‘Seeking the Maharaja’.
Year Five visited the Ancient House museum in Thetford last week to explore the town’s historical connection with Norfolk’s ‘Black Prince’, Maharaja Duleep Singh, a former resident of Elvedon Hall. As part of their Religious Studies curriculum, they enjoyed a number of activities throughout the day, including a walk to two contrasting town statues, a talk on the life of the Maharaja and his links to Elvedon Hall, and an opportunity to speak with the Maharaja’s ‘housekeeper’, who allowed the children to handle some original artefacts of the time, as well as grind spices and roll chapattis. Thank you to the museum staff for a very interesting day that gave all of our children a fascinating insight into the Sikh faith and the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire
