Year 4 visit the Time and Tide Museum
Our Year 4 children visited the Time and Tide Museum this week to further their knowledge of Boudicca and the Roman Invasion. They enjoyed an immersive day exploring a reconstruction of a Roman Villa before training as Roman soldiers under the guidance of Roman Centurion Titus. A particular highlight was the recreation of a testudo formation of shields, with their peers testing their defences with wet sponges!
Switching allegiances, the children then met members of the local Iceni tribe who enlisted their help in plotting against the Romans and planning their Iceni rebellion! An Iceni warrior, Cata taught the children how to make their own tores before putting their axe throwing abilities to the test!
All of the activities were incredibly engaging and offered the children an experiential insight into the Roman way of life and the tensions that existed between the established Roman rule and the Native tribes of Britannia. Thank you very much to all the museum staff for a fantastic day out!
