U13A Girls finish 3rd in the Regional Hockey Finals
The u13A hockey squad were thrilled to be representing Norfolk in the In2 Regional Hockey Finals at Ipswich on Monday having qualified as runners up in the Norfolk county tournament. Featuring the top 16 schools from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire and Essex, the standard of hockey was incredibly strong and a competitive test for our U13 girls.
In pool 4, the team were unable to capitalise on the chances they made in a number of tight matches against strong opposition but were deserving of their 2nd place finish on goal difference after a 1-0 win v Coopers College and 0-0 draws with Bedford Grammar and Saffron Walden. They progressed on to play the winners of pool 3 to see if they would play for 1st to 4th or 5th to 8th. A 1-0 win over Queenswood ensured that they qualified to the top pool to play for the top four places. Unfortunately, at this point, the heavens opened and in extremely challenging cold and wet conditions the team fought hard to gain a 1-1 draw with Orwell, before suffering a 1-2 defeat to Ipswich and a 0-2 defeat to Perse, the overall winners. This left the team a very creditable 3rd place on goal difference, narrowly missing out on the opportunity to progress to the National Finals.
A fantastic effort from the entire squad but particular mention to Gamar, goalkeeper Amy and the coaches’ player of the tournament, Lola.
