Town Close School shortlisted for prestigious national award
Town Close School shortlisted at the TES Independent School Awards 2020 for Pre Prep / Prep School of the Year!
The most outstanding schools and individuals that the independent sector has to offer have been recognised in the shortlist for the 2020 Tes Independent School Awards, and we are proud to reveal that Town Close School has been shortlisted for the Pre Prep / Prep School of the Year Award for outstanding achievements in the 2018-19 academic year!
A wide range of highlights supported our selection and we are extremely proud that many of the initiatives and successes of the academic year were pupil-led by our School Council who spearheaded a new Uniform Policy within School, worked to reduce single-use plastic consumption in School as well as co-ordinated the fundraising and collaborative friendship with last year’s School Charity; The Wherry School. Developing external partnerships and working within our local community were also critical motivations for our work with the UK based charity The Greenpower Trust. Last year Town Close identified and secured funding of close to £50,000 for the charity, enabling them to offer a number of grants to state schools within our region. We also negotiated a local partnership with Lotus Cars, who hosted the inaugural F24 Norfolk Heats at their Norfolk test track in Hethel, with 11 Norfolk state Schools in attendance out of a field of 13. Together with the Goblin racing, it is estimated that around 900 children have participated and benefited from the programmes, inspired by the School’s involvement and by our Head of Design and Technology, Mr Matt Buck, who is the Regional Ambassador for the Trust and a passionate exponent of the educational and social benefits of the programme. Mr Buck has since been deservedly recognised for his role, being named ‘Ambassador of the Year’ for the Trust, and the Town Close Team of Year 8 pupils are celebrating finishing 3rd in the International Finals that took place at Silverstone, an incredible achievement for one of the youngest teams in the field. Aside from these significant achievements, last year we also congratulated a Year 8 cohort who achieved magnificent results, with 24 out of the 37 offered an amazing 34 scholarships and awards by senior schools, while 97% of their Common Entrance grades were graded A-C.
Tes editor Ann Mroz said: “The Independent schools in this country are truly exceptional. And those that have earned a place on the Tes Independent School Awards shortlist are a cut above the rest. We received unparalleled number of entries this year, all of which were first rate. The schools that have been shortlisted should be proud – it’s a remarkable achievement”.
We are extremely proud of our pupils and dedicated staff whose success, commitment and passion have been acknowledged and celebrated in our shortlisting. The winner will be revealed on Friday 7th February 2020. Irrespective of the outcome, we will continue to build on our success and work closely with our Town Close family and the local community to forge links and promote further collaboration. The approved dining hall development will allow us additional opportunity to open our facilities to local schools and community groups.
