Town Close School in Norwich commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the D Day Landings
A fascinating School trip to Normandy provided poignant inspiration for the Year 6 children when they devised and produced a range of incredible models, poems, diaries and cakes to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France. Each creative piece represents a landmark or significant event of the Normandy invasion with the children drawing on their excursions to Utah Beach, Omaha Beach and the Battle of Normandy Museum to give authenticity to their creations.
Sophie Millington, one of the Year 6 pupils, commented; ‘Our recent trip to Normandy and the invasion beaches, the battlefields, the museums, the memorials and the cemeteries made it clear to me that the enormous scale of the operation and the skill, bravery and sacrifice of those involved belong to the finest pages of human history. Therefore, it only seemed right to honour those brave people with work which required effort, imagination and teamwork.’
The models will be on display in the School on Thursday for parents and pupils to view, reflect and remember.
