The Town Close School Year 1 children visit Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse

A Year 1 trip to Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse transported our Year 1 children back to Victorian times and gave them a fascinating insight into how the Victorian’s lived and worked.

In conjunction with their new topic, ‘long, long ago’, the children undertook a series of activities centred around a Victorian farmhouse and the preparations that were required to ready the house for a ‘special visitor’. Under the guidance of a number of engaging costumed characters, the children all cooked, cleaned and washed the clothes using authentic methods and tools from the Victorian era. They also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the wider site, including the old shop and the school classroom, before concluding their day out at the museum’s adventure playground!
