Green Johannas
Last term representatives from the School Eco Council pitched to the Town Close School PTA asking for financial support to purchase three Green Johanna composters to have on the school grounds. Their pitch was very impressive: they had calculated the food waste from lunches and explained how the waste would be converted to compost for use in the Plant Club. A unanimous vote to approve the funding was just reward and the PTA kindly purchased 3 Green Johannas.
The Green Johannas have now arrived and Mr Smith with representatives from the School Eco-Council met to prepare their new Green Johanna composters in readiness for the first food waste. The first step involved collecting & breaking up twigs to use as the base layer. The group will meet once a week with the aim that the children will eventually take charge of managing the process: collecting the food waste, maintaining the composters & distributing the resultant compost to the Plant Club!
We look forward to seeing the progress of this project. Well done to all involved.
