From The Heart Day
The School was awash with red when we came together as a community, dressed in red, to celebrate ‘From the Heart Day’, a chance to share with the children all aspects of the heart. The day was launched in a whole School Assembly when Mrs Sims & Mrs Harries talked about the history of Valentines Day and local legend Jack Valentine before reading the story ‘The Invisible Web’ about an invisible string, made of love, that connects us all! The children replicated this string with each other in the Read Hall and in their classrooms before Mr Chapman created a heartfelt balloon model for the School!
Over the course of the day, in Library sessions the children considered books above love, Science lessons delved in to the way the heart operates and its function within our body, while the Humanities looked at how love, compassion and kindness have shaped us as individuals, with plenty of examples drawn from our past. Even the Catering Team drew on the heart theme, delivering some delicious puddings at lunchtime made with lashings of love!
In tutor groups and form time all of the children had the chance to share their thoughts on personally designed hearts that were attached to the hugging tree within the woodland walk, with many expressing their love of family, the school and their friends. We also took the chance to raise money for our charity this year, The Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital, as well as supply them with a plethora of books, activities and chocolates, all celebrating love and kindness.
In addition, the PTA very kindly donated a Jack Valentine inspired gift for all the children and staff, tying in Valentine’s day to our celebration. Our hearts were full after a lovely day of activities that helped to remind us of the importance of caring for each other & our hearts.
