TOWN CLOSE SCHOOL COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE
As the international response to the Coronavirus outbreak continues to escalate, this is causing a lot of uncertainty about what further measures may be implemented over the coming weeks and how this might affect us all, including schools.
We are continuing to monitor advice on a daily basis and have had a number of meetings to plan for all eventualities. We have already implemented the following:
- Children have all had assemblies or classroom sessions emphasising the importance of hand washing and personal hygiene, explaining how to wash their hands thoroughly. Our staff are also being vigilant to ensure that children do not say unkind things to another because of the Coronavirus outbreak. We will cover this issue again in our assemblies on Friday 13 March, ensuring children know the facts and that specific guidance regarding personal hygiene is reiterated. The overriding message is “keep calm, follow instructions, be kind and carry on.”
- We are being vigilant to ensure soap and handwashing facilities are kept replenished and that we check children have washed their hands before eating.
- Cleaning and maintenance staff have clear protocols and processes in place to ensure the safety of all in our community.
- We have begun planning for how we could continue to teach children as normally as possible should schools be required to close by the government by using virtual classrooms and online resources. Further details will follow tomorrow.
It seems likely that the UK Government will move us from the ‘containment’ phase in place at the beginning of the week, to the ‘delay’ phase, which is likely to include a number of new measures. The School’s will aim to operate as normally as possible, including aiming to run trips as planned, unless government gives advice that a specific activity should not take place.
