Our Year 8 F24 Team begin their long awaited season with a win at Bedford Autodrome!
Our Year 8 F24 Team put the frustrations of a year of lockdown behind them while racing an electric car built at school on the Bedford Autodrome circuit.
Competing for the first time since securing support from the Colin Chapman Foundation, the team did justice to the legacy of the iconic Team Lotus founder by winning their category over four twenty-minute long sprint races.
The result puts Town Close in a strong position to qualify for the International Final, to be held this autumn on the famous Goodwood Circuit. Before then, the young racers will proudly wear their new sponsor’s logo on the Lotus Cars track at Hethel when F24 racing returns to Norfolk in July.
The twelve and thirteen year old pupils work hard to organise the team. ‘I absolutely loved the day, especially the engineering aspects of it. I felt proud to be wearing Colin Chapman’s badge as he is an inspirational figure’ said Celeste, while teammate Charlotte noted: ‘Being sponsored by the Colin Chapman Foundation feels like being part of the bigger motorsports world’.
The events form part of Greenpower Education Trust’s bold initiative to inspire young people in engineering through designing, building and racing electric cars in a series called F24. ‘These are great events with an awesome atmosphere,’ said Town Close team member Tom.
